Shred the Patriarchy
Shredding the patriarchy is a reportage focused on Moroccan women and marginalized communities and how the subculture can be empowerment and a means of social inclusion.
The communities that develop between the skateparks and the different spots are full of values of acceptance, empathy, and unity, a sprout of equality planted in patriarchal soil.
I found it of crucial importance to discover the voices of those few women who decided to break the unsaid rules and to shred around despite the judgments and punishments received because of their rebel spirits. They cannot accept anymore being what that society wants women to be, weak creatures.
Their stories are brave examples of how skateboarding enables them to realize and confirm their identities and they can inspire other people to choose to free themselves by using it as a tool of self-empowerment.
