Caroline Dejeneffe

Polarities are a recurring theme in Caroline Dejeneffe’s body of work. The artist represents the coexistence of opposing feelings in the mind and body through contrasts. Dejeneffe explores how such elements conflict with – but also serve to enrich – each other.

Dejeneffe has utilized her skillful photography and manipulation of technology to create this surreal diptych. Sinuous branches extend from gothic, shadowy hands against a forest green background. Despite the eerie tones, there is a gentle grace to this image. Two hands caress, and delicate cerise flowers bloom from the withered branches. The contrast of these elements helps to soften the dark, angular features of this work.
