The three images are a selection from a session of shots entitled ‘Bodies in Transition’ taken during a performance by dancer Alessandra Cristiani in the summer of 2022. It was not the first time I had attended a performance by Alessandra Cristiani as a spectator, but this was the first time my gaze on her was mediated by the camera. To be confronted with these photographs was an epiphany. Although I know my own way of seeing, here a new alphabetisation of my gaze took place, shared and guided by a body that was changing shapes in space, changing intensity and dancing together. The photographs were taken with 35 mm black and white film and printed with silver salts on baryta paper in the darkroom, and then scanned for sharing.
