About This Project

Jack Jeffreys

These photos are taken in Brittany, France, where green algae is often found in abundance due to unethical over-farming of pigs. On mass, the algae traps deadly gasses that have taken lives of people and animals. In these small patches it can be beautiful, but when abundant, it smothers landscapes. I am interested in how this algae is in equal parts natural and unnatural, and when I looked back at my photographs, it surprised me how man-made the plants looked, because in a way they are. To me, they look like treasure – I like this deadly allure that they have.
