“No Femmes. No Fats.” When I started using gay dating apps as a teen, I saw this phrase frequently, branding me as unwelcome. Navigating the gay dating scene with a fat body ignited a conflict between by body and my queerness. “Unaffixed” began with self-portraiture to explore this conflict. I then shifted the focus to other queer individuals and collaboration became an integral part of my work. I rarely arrive with concrete ideas, instead, we work together to create images in the moment. Spontaneity, intimacy, play, humor, and absurdity permeate throughout the series, echoing the dynamism of non-normative existence.
