This series showcases images of impossible animals, conjured up through a collaboration between the author and AI. It represents an intersection of data and text which, when combined, yield an image. Like all images, these are created by devices and surfaces. They are not particularly noteworthy except for the fact that they did not exist in this world before. Or at least, they have not existed in a tangible form. Perhaps now they are materialized, but maybe they have always existed in some latent manner. As Borges writes, “We do not understand the meaning of the dragon, just as we do not understand the meaning of the universe, but there is something in its image that resonates with the human imagination, and thus the dragon appears across different cultures and eras.” These imaginary animals dwell in their own world, invisible, unreachable, inhabited by all possibilities. The challenge is to project them onto a surface and stop merely imagining them, to actually see them.
